Top Four Tips on How to Live In Between Homes

This post was written by Paige Giles

As a new homebuyer, you will soon mark the move-in day onto your calendar. Sometimes, this date can occur before you are ready to move from your current residence. Other times, it may happen after you are scheduled to move out.

The good news is there are several ways you can spend this “in-between” time so that you can relax, have a plan, and look forward to the big day. The premier Utah new home builders at McArthur Homes have some advice.

What if I haven’t moved out yet?

If you are still living in your current residence and your new home is ready, consider slowing down, packing up one room at a time, and using the situation to get rid of items you no longer want or need. Often, folks are so eager to move into their new home, they quickly pack up everything they own without getting rid of unnecessary possessions. Instead, you can use this as an opportunity to donate useful items to civic foundations such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army and perhaps even accrue a few tax credits for donating to charity. Plus, when you move into your new house, you can enjoy finding new ways to decorate so that it truly feels like a fresh start.

What can I do while I wait for my home to be ready?

In the event you are packed up and prepared to move, but your new residence is not quite ready, you can spend the “in-between” time on some much-needed leisure. If you are working with McArthur Homes and you have purchased one of our gorgeous new homes in Utah, you may want to visit some of the region’s vacation attractions. Some of these are Thanksgiving Point, the Museum of Natural Curiosity and Ashton Gardens. Plus, you might even embark on a bit of lakeside adventure at Utah Lake, located just south of Lehi, Utah.

Where should I stay?

If you have moved out of your previous residence and are waiting for your new home to be completed, you can always rent temporary accommodations by seeking out off-season vacation homes, apartments available for sub-leasing, corporate housing or an AirBnB property. These options are typically cheaper than traditional lease agreements. Additionally, these accommodations work well for the owners of the short-term rental property, as there are others like you who will be seeking options of how to live between homes.

How can I enjoy the time waiting to move into my new house?

If you are moving to a new home and you have time before your new residence is move-in ready, consider catching up with friends and relatives. Whether they live in the region or somewhere along the way, you can use the occasion for an overdue visit. You can take the time to catch up on current events, perhaps gather new interior decor ideas, and just maybe plan a similar gathering at your new house.
